Ladies and gentlemen: Marjorie Elizabeth Miller, AKA “Mama Margie” has taken her last breath and “left the building” on Monday May 10 th , 2021 at 2:27 pm. She passed peacefully at the age of 86 while in hospice care at Regent Care Oakwell Farms in San Antonio, Texas. Margie was born on December 21st, 1934 and grew up in San Antonio where she attended Brackenridge High School. She is survived by her 5 children, son Thomas Miller and wife Andrea Bustos, son Tim Miller, son Terry Miller and wife Karen Heineke Miller, daughter Missy Berlet, daughter Becky King and husband Jason Balter, granddaughter Vanessa Miller, granddaughter Valarie Ballard and husband Roger Ballard, grandson Alan Miller, grandson Miles Miller, granddaughter Sarina Miller, granddaughter Luna Miller, granddaughter Amalie Miller, grandson Ozren Balter, great granddaughter Jasmine Vannatta, great grandson Brixton Ballard, great grandson Weston Ballard, brother John King, childhood friend Joyce Bradfield, beloved dog Lady Bird (“Boo Boo Mogwai”) and granddog Josephine Barker (“Josie”). She is predeceased by her mother Margaret Daniels, father Herbert King, spouse of 31 years, Glenn Milller, and her fur baby Sugar who was well known in the theatre community for her many roles on the Josephine Theatre stage. Margie’s vast experience in the entertainment world started as a band parent for the Roosevelt High School Rough Riders marching band. and continued on to the San Antonio Ballet Company where she served on the board of directors and provided temporary housing for dancers from all over the world when they joined the company. Later endeavors at the San Antonio Little Theater with the Saltines began her wearing of multiple hats which included box office and costuming. Margie was a very accomplished seamstress who had been creating many costumes for her children throughout the years which led her to working at Southwest Costumes. And thanks to a little urging from her lifelong friend, Joyce Bradfield, Margie was able to get her realtor license and worked for many years at Hallmark Bradfield Properties. In the 80’s Margie and her daughter Missy started the Showstoppers Academy of Musical Theatre with a small group of kids in the gym at St Luke’s Episcopal Church with Music Director Joyce Brannon. The group grew at a very rapid pace and within a year relocated first to the Alamo City Theater and later moved into their own studio at the renovated Alamo City Theatre at the Josephine with Jerry Pollock. Margie handled costume design and box office sales for the academy for many years to follow until she eventually became the office manager for The Josephine Theatrical Company Inc. While managing The Josephine Theatre box office and costuming shows she also regularly booked talent out and costumed them for industrial work with companies like The R.K. Group, Sturchio Entertainment Co., and many more. Chances are pretty good that if you have ever worked an entertainment gig or appeared in a show in San Antonio, you have at some point been costumed by “Mama Margie”, like it or not. Margie loved being at the Josephine Theatre and spent more time there than she did at her own home. She would like for any donations to be made payable to The Josephine Theatrical Company, Inc., at 339 W. Josephine Street, San Antonio, Texas 78212, or at www.josephinetheatre.org. and all donations are 100% tax deductible. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Josephine Theatre on Sunday June 13th, 2021 at 4:00 pm with food and fellowship to follow in the lounge. We know there are many funny stories about Margie out there and we encourage you to share them with us so we can all use a much needed good laugh. Please email them to josephinetheatre@gmail.com or missyberlet@gmail.com.
