On November 13, 1939 a baby boy was born to Virgil and Virginia Scruggs Green and they named him Virgil V. Green Jr. Virgil was born in Gonzales County, Texas. In his early years, Virgil accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was baptized in the Guadalupe River under the leadership of Pastor E.T. Fuller of Evans Chapel UMC.
Virgil received his formal education in the Gonzales County School District. Upon graduating from high school, Virgil married his first wife JoAnn, and to this union a daughter, Tanza was born. When this marriage dissolved, he later married, Abra Estell Williams Darden on January 19, 1990. They we’re married twenty-nine years before she transitioned on July 15, 2019.
Virgil entered the workforce and was employed as a Electrician for Butter Crust Bakery. He later went on to work for HEB. He loved playing dominoes with family and friends, joking around, cooking, and drawing pictures. Because he loved cooking, whenever there were family gatherings,
Virgil would always be sure to bring a dish or two for everyone to enjoy. He was always happy to open his home for celebrations.
Virgil was proceeded in death by his parents, Virgil and Virginia Green, wife, Abra Green, sister, Mahalia B. Price and brothers, Elisha “GG” Green, and Jacob Green. Those left to cherish his memory are: his sister, Nellie M. Hardaway (Lincoln); daughter, Tanza Green Puckett; son, Stevie Roberts; stepsons, Bishop Norris Delaney Darden, Darrell Darden, and Frederic Earl Darden; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, a faithful nephew, Ricky W. Canady and a host of nieces, nephews, other family as well as friends.
