Maria Jimenez Escobedo, beloved mother, abuela, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on November 21, 1935, in Saspamco, Texas, Maria lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
Known for her warm heart and her legendary cooking, Maria had a special touch when it came to making caldo—a comfort food she lovingly shared with her family. She found joy in the simple things, like a hot cup of coffee and toast each morning, and spending quality time with those she loved.
Maria was also the family’s reigning lotería champion, always ready to play and share stories from her past. But perhaps nothing brought her as much excitement as watching wrestling and Law & Order. She could name just about every wrestler, but her favorite was Umaga, the fierce Hawaiian competitor who never failed to bring a smile to her face.
A skilled crocheter, Maria crafted countless potholders and blankets that became family heirlooms, each piece made with care and love. While she was known for her kindness, Maria never held back her honest opinion. She gave advice straight from the heart—never sugarcoated, always sincere.
Her presence, strength, and spirit will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in every shared meal, every lotería game, every crocheted blanket, and every morning cup of coffee.
Maria is preceded in death by her husband, Juan R. Escobedo and son, Richard Escobedo, parents Antonio and Maria Jimenez.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Rosie and Jesse Alameda, Blanca and Fred Ortiz, Johnny and Lidia Escobedo; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
