Clarence White Jr.

Clarence White was a man of faith, determination, and quiet strength whose life journey reflected courage, hard work, and deep love for God and people.

Born on May 19, 1935, in New Castle, Alabama, Clarence was the eldest son of ten children born to Clarence White, Sr., and Ada Bell White. Shortly after completing high school, he began seeking job opportunities, determined to build a meaningful and stable life.

With bold faith and a vision for something greater, Clarence left the South and relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, in search of better opportunities. His perseverance paid off. After several years of dedication, he was hired by the City of Cleveland as an environmental worker. With pride and humility, he would often describe his job by saying, “I drove trucks, weighed trucks, and collected money.” He built a good life through honest work, always giving thanks to God for His provision.

A devoted man of faith, Clarence always put God first. He was a faithful member of St. John Baptist Church, where he served with love and commitment as a trustee, usher, and devotional praise leader. Worship was part of his very being, and his favorite song, “Jesus on the Main Line,” reflected his firm belief that prayer could reach Heaven at any time.

Clarence was a true Christian in both word and action. He shared his faith freely — whether speaking to a delivery driver, a neighbor, or a stranger in the grocery store. His kindness, warmth, and willingness to talk about the goodness of God left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

In his later years, Clarence was blessed with devoted care and companionship from his beloved wife and helpmate, Pearlie Mae. She lovingly tended to his needs with patience, compassion, and unwavering dedication. Her caregiving reflects deep love and faithfulness, providing comfort, dignity, and peace during his later journey. Their bond was a beautiful example of partnership, commitment, and God-centered love.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence White, Sr. and Ada Belle White; his brother, Tommy Lee White; his sisters, Pearlie Mae Fair, Agnes White Carter, Geraldine Wilson, Ezzie Conner, and Victoria Harper; his first wife, Barbara Jean White; his daughter, Jessie Daniels; his beloved grandson, Shon Daniels; and his bonus daughter, Lenore Jones.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Pearlie Mae White; his children, Loretta McDuffy and Clarence White Jr.; his bonus children, Dennis Jones and Thermajean Jones; his brothers, Willie White, Leroy White, and Ricky White; and his sister, Benita Joyce Williams, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, church family, and friends who will forever carry his legacy of faith, hard work, and love.

Clarence’s life reminds us that with faith, courage, and determination, a better life is always possible, and that a life lived for God leaves a light that never fades
