Frank "Frankie" Steindl, Jr., 13 Aug 1953 - 24 Mar 2015. Frankie was born on the 13th of Aug 1953 in Wichita, Kansas and was called to be with our Lord on the 24th of Mar 2015. In 1971, Frankie entered into the Army in the First Calvary Division. He served during the Vietnam Conflict and received 2 ribbons (Vietnam Service Ribbon and the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon) and 2 medals (Air Medal for actively participating in more than twenty-five aerial missions over hostile territory and the Bronze Star for valor). He also received the Combat Infantry Badge. He served with Big Red One (First Infantry Division) in Ft. Riley, Kansas. While in Grafenwohr, Germany, Frankie was the first soldier to fire a live round from a new system called the "Tube Launched, Optical Tracked, Wire Guided" (TOW). The spent tube was returned to Ft. Riley and was to be placed in the museum. While stationed in Germany, he discovered a little town called "Steindl." 27 Sep 1974, Frankie's service in the Army ended and later that same year he signed on with H-E-B working at the Grocery Warehouse until his retirement in 2007. Frankie is survived by his daughter, Debra Ray and husband Richard of Hampton, GA; grandchildren: Blake Hix and Kaylee Ray, both of Hampton, GA; sisters: Nancy Dovalina and husband Jorge of San Antonio, Brenda Bender and husband Jon of Fredericksburg, VA, Sandra Rodriguez and husband Alfred of San Antonio; brother: Larry Steindl of San Antonio, TX; nieces and nephews: Crystal Dovalina, Tony Dovalina, Max Bender and Maddie Bender; Aunts: Helen Fryar and Wanda Myers and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Steindl Sr. and Martha Rogers Steindl; and brother, Alan Steindl. Services will be held at Meadowlawn Memorial Park Friday, 03 Apr 2015 in the Chapel with a viewing from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Funeral Service will be at 12:00 pm. The funeral procession will depart from Meadowlawn for a 1:45 pm interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
