Barbara Nerz Smith was born November 21, 1938 in Gersthofen, Germany to Karolina and Johann Nerz.
Barbara attended the local schools and graduated at an early age. Upon completing school, she began a successful career in retail and other industries.
In the early 1960's she met the love of her life, Alfred Smith. The were married and shared 54 1/2 years together.
The family moved to San Antonio and Barbara worked at the Avalon Nursing Facility for ten years. She also enjoyed sitting at the Little Fish Factory people watching and communicating with the clientele. She loved people and being around them.
Barbara leaves to mourn, her husband Alfred Smith; children, Frank Smith (Betty) of San Antonio, Mary J. Smith of San Antonio, Alvin Smith of San Antonio, Lucian Smith (Janet) of San Antonio, Alfred Smith, Jr. of Germany and Merlin Smith (Donna) of San Antonio; grandchildren, Robert, Syreata, Dwayne, Mina, Evelyn, Shaniqua, Adolfo, Brian, Merlin, Jr., and Brandon; great grandchildren, Jayla, jacian, henry, Ella, Brian, Jr., Robert, Jr., Devonte, Joy and Chasity; siblings, Amalie Gruber of Germany, Liese Reiniger of German, Ewald Koboeck (Karola) of Germany; brother-in-law, Floyd Smith (Dorothy) of California along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also cherishing her memory are her special friends at the Little Fish Factory, especially Lupe.
