Ernestine Minne Jean Whitley Walters born April 27, 1926, was a native of Luling, Texas. She attended Roosevelt High School where she was the first female basketball player with a mean tripping knee; she earned her diploma with honors. At age 17 she moved to San Antonio, Texas where she attended St. Phillips College and majored in education. Ernestine met and married James Walters, this union ended in divorce. She was active in the Local American Legion and Elks Lodge. Ernestine was also a member of Tried Stone Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the choir, and The Women's Mission and Food Bank until her health declined. She rededicated her life to the Lord in her kitchen on March 9, 2013, and after a short serious illness she departed Thursday, March 14, 2013 to rest in the arms of "The Most High". Ernestine, fondly known as "Aunt Steenie" to her nieces and nephews, is preceded in death by her parents David Lee Whitley and Birdie Lee Hubbard Whitley; Sister, Erlene Lee, and Brother, David Whitley. She leaves to mourn one sister Malinda Whitley Findley (Charles Findley); Four nephews: Bishop Odell Lee Jr. (Theresa Lee), Patrick Findley, Sal Findley (Irma Findley) and Marcos Findley; Three nieces Cheryl Duvall (Henry Duvall), Belinda Ferrell (Johnny Ferrell), and Sandra Kay Scott (Sandy). Also surviving are a host of great-nieces & nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and many friends. And God shall wipe all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away. Rev 21:4
