September 2, 1995 ~ May 2, 2016
Nicholas "Nick" James Burford, 20, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2016. He was born September 2, 1995 in San Antonio, the son of Carrie Ann Towles and James Hartwell Burford Jr.. Nick graduated from Karen Wagner High School in 2014, where he was a member of Wagner's orchestra playing bass and cello, and choir as a baritone, he also worked to bring awareness as a member of Wagner's Gay-Straight Alliance. He attended St. Philip's College as a sophomore. He was employed at Starbucks as a barista, and Charlie's Old-Fashioned Truck Wash as a dryer.
Nicholas loved music, from a young age he sought out undiscovered artists, and taught himself to play bass guitar. He started attending local shows, supporting the music scene, and formed the band Truth Is Treason with close friends from high school. Truth Is Treason put out an EP titled "Earthbound" and his band performed at multiple venues across San Antonio.
Nicholas stood as an advocate for equal rights and assisting those in need. He donated blood and plasma through South Texas Blood and Tissue Center whenever he could, and donated his hair to Locks of Love. His stance on politics grew as he became a supporter for Bernie Sanders' campaign, contributing money and his services to spreading awareness.
Nicholas is survived by his mother, Carrie Ann Towles and father, James Hartwell Burford Jr.; brothers Adrian Fernandez, Zachary Burford, and Alex Salinas, and sister Ashley Burford. Nick leaves his grandparents, Wilfred Bohr Jr. and Betty Bohr; aunts Dawn Hammel, Kimberly McDaniel, Samantha Cherry, Jodie Vasquez, and Lavonne Burford; uncles Roy Vasquez, Johnny Burford, Michael Hammel, and Michael McDaniel, along with numerous cousins. Nicholas also leaves his girlfriend of four years, Amanda Trejo, their dog Leroy, best friend Jaden Freerking, and family dogs, Shelby and Ziggy.
A memorial celebration will be held for family and friends whose lives Nick touched at MeadowLawn Memorial Park, 5611 E. Houston St., San Antonio, TX at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, May 13, 2016 to honor and celebrate his life and reminisce, grieve, and support each other.
In lieu of flowers, consider making contributions to San Antonio Humane Society, Child Advocates of San Antonio, or Meals on Wheels. We strongly encourage people to donate blood and plasma just as Nick would.

Thomas Jefferson Faculty & Staff sends their deepest sympathy. We are deeply sorry for your lost. May God be your strength and comfort in your time of sorrow. You are in our prayers.
My condolences to your family, A friend of Zachary’s. I never actually knew your brother on a personal level but from what I can tell is that he was full of life and still is. Just because he isn’t here physically doesn’t mean he isn’t spiritually for he lives in all of your hearts. Know that it’s never too late to continue making memories with him because he is always included still while holding onto older memories. Mourn as much as you need to, it’s healthy and he knows it needs to be done but just don’t forget that he still wants you to live without having to worry. Keep on keeping on. Much love to you all. <3 -Selina
May God bless you all in Jesus name Amen.
