June 15, 1951 ~ May 18, 2010

Vivian Lauranda Hall Ricks was born June 15, 1951, in Salitpa, Alabama. There she was baptized at an early age. Nevertheless, her childhood was spent growing up in Mobile, Alabama until she and her family moved to San Antonio, TX in 1967. She attended Wheatley High School and St. Philips College. Her educational achievement was nursing. She was employed with Cresthaven/Willows Development Center from March 1980 to December 2009. Her talented supervisory skills earned her the respect of all her co-workers. Vivian was a compassionate person. She valued family and friends. As a family member, she took extreme pride in togetherness. Not a family member gathering occurred where she didn't take charge of playing some kind of game. Of course, sometimes she made her own rules, but that was the beauty of her personality. Family members looked forward to "Christmas Bingo" because they knew she would have been bargain shopping all year for the exact gifts as a "love" prize. Her grandkids never lost because she would sneak a "peak" on their cards to make sure each one won. What a wonderful woman God created! As a friend, a secret told her would never be revealed. It was a badge of honor to her. As a co-worker, she was decisive and fair. Vivian leaves to mourn her parents: Zeolar S. and Clyde G. Hall of San Antonio, TX; three daughters: Lauana Y. Hall, Yong San, S. Korea; Leatrice N. Ricks, Washington, DC; Treva D. Ricks, San Antonio, TX; five grandchildren: Trenea D. Stevenson, Terence M. Stevenson, Desiree P. Ricks, Darius M. Miranda, and Tramaine T. Williams; brothers/sisters: Charlie Hall, Sr., Houston, TX; Alice Hall Bunton (Cordell), Stockton, CA, Nathaniel Hall (Helen Jean), Richmond, TX; Willie Mae Ash, San Antonio, TX; (13) thirteen nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.

  4. My prayers and thoughts go out to you, the Ricks family. You have lost a beautiful, funny, witty, lovable, Phenomenal woman. I meet Vivian at The Willows her sometimes 2nd home. No other could wear those minis like Ms. Vivian, nor could no other get “her” point across like her..(Smile) She had a way of saying peoples names, letting you know she was not happy about something they did. I can still hear her pronounceation in my head(Smile). I have and will always miss Ms. Vivian. They say “We never receive our rewards here on earth” well, I know GOD is giving her every one she deserved in heaven. She loved her girls. And spoke so often about them and her grandchildren. Your Holidays and family get togethers were often her topic of conversation at The Willows. My ears have missed the laughter that could carry down the halls. May your memories comfort you in this time of grief. For she was truly a Phenomenal woman.

  5. Mom, you are and will be greatly missed. I’ll always have the memories of going out to dinners, your b-lines to the clearance aisles whenever we went shopping, your jokes, your laughter, and the Bill Miller incident. I’ll have a lifetime memories. But most of all, I’ll miss your beautiful face. Thank you Mother for everything you have given your daughters and grandchildren. We thank God for giving us You. I love you, I love you, I love you!!!!! Always your rock, Uani.

  6. My deepest condolences for the family. May you be comforted by Jesus promise. When he walked the earth curing many people and also resurrecting loved ones back to life on earth. Jesus promised, the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out -John chapter 5 verses 28, 29.
