Life's race well run, Life's work well done, Life's victory won, Now cometh rest. - Edward Hazen Parker
Mr. Curtis Leroy Brothers was born on October 27, 1939, to Reverend William Brothers and Cleo Hardeman Brothers in Star Town, Texas. He was the third child born into their loving family, which grew to include six children. As a child Curtis was baptized at William Taylor United Methodist Church in Luling, Texas. He was very active in church serving on the usher board and singing in the choir. During his early adult years he served as a Sunday School teacher at Bethel United Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas.
Curtis had many talents in school. He played football and was an expert wood worker and artisan. Curtis made chairs and swings for the family yard. He was also a stellar mathematician. It was not uncommon for the teacher to ask Curtis to assist his classmates with their studies. Curtis graduated from Rosenwald High School in Luling, Texas at the age of 16. Curtis was no stranger to hard work. Immediately following high school he joined the work force. His mastery of carpentry and construction took him all over the state of Texas building nursing homes, highways, bridges and dams. Curtis was the proud father of Sherri Annette Brothers, Donald "Duc" Leroy Brothers and stepson Brian Wilson, of his first marriage with Shirley Wilson Brothers; and Evelyn Danielle Brothers and Thomas Jason Brothers, of his marriage with Marian Greenwood Brothers. Curtis was a dedicated employee of the San Antonio Independent School District for 20 years. Most of his years with the School District he served as Roofing Supervisor. He performed his duties with the utmost of excellence. Curtis also did independent contractor work and was well known in the San Antonio community for his outstanding workmanship.
During his retirement years Curtis became an avid reader. His home became somewhat of a library with books covering a wide range of topics. He had a wealth of knowledge that he loved sharing. He was a devoted father figure to many of the younger men in his family. Curtis also enjoyed gardening and caring for his fruit trees. Above all, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch and having conversation with family members and friends who would just stop by to see Uncle Curt.
Curtis Leroy Brothers departed this life to be with the Lord on July 18, 2015, in San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother Cleo Brothers, brother Thomas James Brothers, close cousin George "Sonny" Brothers, his father Revered William Brothers and his brother Willie Brothers.
