David Hartley

David Hartley was born in Washington D.C. to Videll Wilson on May 13, 1950. David attend public schools in Washington D.C. In 1968 following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army with his mother's permission. He served his country for three years and fought in the Vietnam Campaign. While on a mission in Vietnam he saved his fellow troops by firing upon the enemy and carrying out a fellow soldier to safety, earning him a Purple Heart along with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and an Army Commendation medal. It was during a mission that he injured his knee and was not allowed to re-enlist after three years. It was his service time in Vietnam that caused him to be diagnosed with PTSD, which would be ever present for many years. Following his discharge from the military he moved to San Jose, California where he was employed by the transit system for eight years. Later he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. He transfered his job to San Antonio and served as the shop stewart for several years. He remained employed by the postal service until his retirement in 2005. David met and married Sandra Tynes. To this union a baby girl, Danielle, was born. David had a sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He was a kind man, helping others along the way. David was an avid football and basketball fan. His teams were the Washington Redskins and the Los Angeles Lakers. David lost his son, David Donnell, a year age. He never quite recovered from his passing. David suffered from heart issues for several years before his death. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Videll Wilson; sons, David Jr. and David Donnell; grandsons, Stanley Butler, Jr. and Desmond Greenfield. David leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of twenty seven years, Sandra A. Hartley; daughters, Michelle, Tisha and Danielle L. Hartley; grandchildren, Alicia Lanell and Kamryn Cordell Hartley-Bass, Leah and Lelah Jones, Devon Greenfield, Javone and Joaquan Butler; special God-daughter Arriana Clark; his beloved brother, Jerone Hartley; sister, Selena Wilson; aunt, Jennie Hartley; uncle, Joe Hartley and loving cousin, Frances Hartley; sisters-in-law, Mabel and Paulette Tynes; brothres-in-law, Martin and Jeffrey Tynes as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
