February 28, 1940 ~ June 14, 2013
Lenda Leigh Hairston Vaughan passed away peacefully on June 14, 2013 at her home surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband Vernon R. Vaughan, their children Cynthia L. Vaughan and partner Kip King, Sharon V. Leslie and husband Will, and Vernon (Bubba) R. Vaughan, Jr. and wife Donna, and their grandchildren Whitney Kirby, Taylor and Blair Leslie, and Paxton and Payton Vaughan. Lenda Leigh Hariston was born in Crockett, TX on February 28, 1940 to Willie Hairston and Maye Trimble Mason. She is survived by her brothers Cary Hairston and Lonnie (Bud) Hairston, her sister Pam Rhodes and their families. Lenda and Vernon married on August 17, 1957, and she graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1958. Her career spanned Presidencies of local school councils and as Office Manager of The Bebrick Company for 27 years. She loved to travel, ride her motorcycle, paint and draw, and worship at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, San Antonio and St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Rockport. Lenda, affectionately known as "Gamma" to her hundreds of family and friends, conquered three types of cancer five times over the span of 20 years. Lenda lived each day to the fullest, secure in her faith and love for God and strengthened by her zest for life. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Anes and his nurse Betty, Dr. Gunuganti and his staff, and Martha Duque and Kimberly McGough of Cima Hospice for their faithful and dedicated care. Donations may be made in Lenda's name to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.

I have nothing but wonderful memories of Lenda… Every time I visited my father at Bebrick Lenda would bring me into her office, sit me down and we would have a long talk… She would show me all the new pictures she had added to her collection and I loved that her office was so beautifully decorated, such a sharp contrast from the paint and body shop… My heart is heavy… Prayers of peace going out to the entire Vaughn family…

Gail and I send our deepest sympathy to Vernon and the family. We enjoyed knowing Lenda. She was a giving, caring woman who always had a cheerful word for everyone. Please know that Lenda and her family will be in our prayers.
David and I feel very blessed to have known Lenda. She was an amazing, happy woman that always had a smile on her face. We would sit and visit with her and she was always upbeat and such an inspiration to us in spite of her continuous battle with cancer. She will be so much missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Vaughn family.
The family is in our thoughts and prayers. In the few years the Vaughans have been “weekend neighbors,” it is evident that family is important. Mrs. Vaughan, aka Gamma was a blessing and joy to us all. She always had a smile and an appreciation for life, despite the pain she must have endured. For us, she will remain a true inspiration of living each day to the fullest. While we will miss her as an angel on earth, Heaven gained one of the best!
She was a blessing to her family and friends. Even though our acquaintance was short, she has forever touched my heart. She will be remembered and is truly admired by myself and many others who have been blessed to have known her. Prayers to her family during this time.
