Dora L. Shirley
December 12, 1954 ~ July 4, 2010
Dora Lillian Shirley passed away at her residence in San Antonio on Sunday, July 4, 2010. Dora was born on December 12, 1954 in Falfurrias, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Julia, and by a brother, James. Her memory will live on through her siblings: sister, Pat and brothers, Fred, Homer and Tom. Sons, Gamble and Jacob; daughter, Paala, and new granddaughter, Paaloma Lillian will forever remember her as a strong, persistent, intelligent and loving matriarch. In addition, she is also survived by her best friend, Gary. In lieu of flowers, please go out to eat with your family and tip your waitress generously. A casual memorial gathering will take place at 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Scholz Garten in Austin, TX.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of such a smart and gracious woman. I met Dora at Trinity and reconnected with her several times since the 1970’s. I still treasure a letter she wrote me when my husband died. She was one of the sweetest and most thoughtful people you would ever know.
Please accept my sympathy and prayers during this very sad time. I am so sorry for your loss. Dora is now an angel in heaven watching over her family. Losing such a special person is so very hard.
For some reason Dora always would put on Little Feat “Time Loves a Hero ” album during our marathon backgammon games. I’m not sure whether that was the only album I had that she enjoyed or what? I never really figured Dora out- I never really tried very hard to understand because it was so much fun to be included in her circle of friends. We really did have some great times. I do know she was a very intelligent woman who lived her life as she wanted. She was one of my closest friends for many years and it is hard to accept that she is gone. To all her family and to her circle of friends -I share your sense of loss.
