Elijah was born to Lige W. White and Mary Tisdell White on June 6, 1943 in Alice, Texas. He passed away peacefully on February 27, 2017
Elijah was baptized as a youth at Progressive Baptist Church. Later in life he moved his membership to Lily of the Valley Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Steven R. Owens and then to New Dimension Ministries, under the leadership of Rev. John D. Kyle where he remained until his death. Elijah attended the public schools in San Antonio, graduating from Phillis Wheatley High School, class of 1961.
Following high school he joined the workforce. Elijah worked and retired from Union Pacific Railroad after 17 years. His passion was riding and caring for his horses, "Buck" and "Repeat". He loved that good "ole" country living. Elijah also, was one of the charter members of the Buffalo Soldiers, San Antonio Chapter.
Elijah leaves to mourn his son, Elijah Woods of Houston, Texas; daughters, Stephanie George of Dallas, Texas, Schuree Robinson-Collier of Dallas, Texas and Rayvene Winters of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Frances L. White Scott and her husband Sam of Dallas, Texas and Paulette Reece of San Antonio, Texas; brother, John Cyphers of San Antonio, Texas and his devoted companion, Angela McCracken along with four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters of choice, Erna Holt and Edna M. Barnes and a host of other relatives and friends.
