Barbara Bostick Mauldin gently passed away on September 6, 2022 at the age of 88. Barbara was born on February 21, 1934 in Corsicana, Texas to Moment and Irene Bostick—their only child. Much of her life story is summarized in the poem written for her 88th birthday,
Lovely, Lovely, Lovely
Was it the cookies and breads, those irresistible spreads
Of baked excellence that led me to your table?
Or was it your eyes and smile, showing no guile,
That told me you’re the genuine label.
Sweet child, brought up well in Ft. Worth,
A girl about town in your blue-eyed mirth.
Well-traveled on roads by bus,
Learned drama in college and armed with the knowledge,
Braved the Big Apple, no fuss.
She reached Santa Fe as a full-fledged gourmet
Then found her way to the Caribbean.
Staying so much on the water she can swim like an otter,
And once came ashore like an amphibian.
Hosting Les Amis du Vin, working her sauté pan
She honed her craft and her skill.
In San Miguel de Allende seven years, comprende?
To be catered by her was a thrill.
Now back home and at Biga, my lovely, lovely amiga.
The lady whose love we all share.
What more to say on the eve of your birthday?
Lovely Barbara, with heart so fair.
