Carey Dennis Ricks

Carey Dennis Ricks was born August 17th, 1953 to Isaac Ricks and Loda Pearl Ricks of San Antonio, Texas. His life in this world ended on October 1, 2021, as according to God’s will. Carey attended West End Church of God in Christ at an early age, under the late Pastor Walter L. Jones. There he served in Sunshine Band, Purity Class, YPWW (Young People Willing Workers), and attended Sunday school. He also became a skillful drummer for the church. He later attended Wayfaring Church of God in Christ under the tutelage of Pastor John R. L. Harvey, where he met his wife Carol. He remained faithful and served in the Men’s department. He then returned back to West End C.O.G.I.C. under Pastor Jessie Denny. Carey attended Thomas Jefferson High School where he graduated in 1971. He was a dedicated truck driver for many years, until the company went out of business. His later years, he became a committed employee for FedEx. He is preceded in death by his Father-Isaac Ricks, Mother-Loda Pearl Ricks, Sister’s-Mrytle Marie Stout and Wynonia Jean Eddings. He is survived by his wife, Carol Ricks, siblings-Betty Jo Mouton, James Isaac Ricks, George Albert Ricks, and Bernadette Renee Soria, Oland G. Rogers(uncle) aka “sonny boy”(Alice), Clara Ricks (aunt), Thaddeus William Stout, Jr. aka “Buzz” (Herlyn), and thirteen nieces & nephews (4 boys and 9 girls). He is also survived by his extended family of wife Carol Ricks which includes; three children-Cornelius Freeland (Sand), Comella Freeland (Danny), Ricole Ali (Rashad), five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, friends, and neighbors.

We fondly remember Carey’s eagerness to attend the 2018 Ricks-Crawford-Gross Family Reunion in Los Angeles. Carey’s enthusiasm during our time of fellowship and his curiosity about our family history were touching. Carey’s memory will be acknowledged at the 2022 Family Reunion along with other family members who have departed this life since the 2018 reunion.
