Born in:
San Antonio, Texas
Resided in:
San Antonio, Texas
Carol was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, where she attended local schools and graduated from Fox Tech High School. Raised in a household grounded in faith, Carol was taught from an early age to love the Lord and trust in His promises. This spiritual foundation shaped her character and cultivated the servant’s heart that would guide her throughout her life.
Answering her calling to care for others, Carol pursued a career in nursing. She later earned her Master of Science degree from Walden University, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the Incarnate Word, where she also received the RN-BSN Nursing Peer Award for Clinical Excellence and faithfully served in the nursing profession for forty years. To Carol, nursing was not simply a career—it was a ministry. Through compassion, patience, and dedication, she reflected God’s love to all she served. While she devoted herself to helping others, her greatest earthly joy was always her family.
Carol was a devoted and loving mother to her three children—Michael, William, and Suhneka. She was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished her family deeply. She prayed for them, encouraged them, and loved them unconditionally. Her life was a testimony of faith, strength, and obedience to God, and she leaves behind a legacy that will continue to guide generations.
For forty-one years, Carol shared a loving and faithful union with her husband, Michael Pickens. Together, they built a life rooted in love, commitment, and faith in God, supporting one another through every season of life.
On January 22, in accordance with God’s divine will, Carol was called from labor to reward. Surrounded by her loving family, she peacefully transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly rest.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Bishop R. A. Wauls and Myrtle Wauls; her siblings Robert A. Wauls, Gwendolyn Knowles, Shirley Eddie, Joan Sorrell, Robbie Lee Martin, and Fred D. and her relatives Marsha Eddie Jr. and Sekina Naree Eddie.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Michael Pickens; her children, Michael Pickens, William Monk, and Suhneka Monk; her siblings, Samuel Wauls, Michael Wauls, Karen Armour, and Jan Wauls; her grandchildren, Ashlee Monk, Allen Dukes, Anthony Dukes, Kaylee Monk, William Monk IV, and Khalil Monk; her great-grandchildren, Aubree Monk and Kross Monk and a host of other relatives, church family, and dear friends.
