Catherine Mackey, lovingly known as “Cat,” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 20, 2025.
Cat was born on June 24, 1948, to Garnet and Amy Fields Mackey in St. Hedwig, Texas, and was one of nine children. The family later moved to San Antonio, where Cat received her education through the San Antonio Independent School District.
Introduced to Christ at an early age, Cat eventually joined Greater Tree Mount Temple Baptist Church, where she made her church home under the leadership of the late Rev. Aristide Brown, Sr. She enjoyed a long and dedicated career in housekeeping, serving as a supervisor, and retired after more than forty years of service.
Cat truly enjoyed life. She loved listening to the blues, and shooting pool was not just a pastime—it was a passion, earning her three trophies along the way. She found joy in entertaining, spending time with family and friends in the country, cooking hearty meals, and tending to her garden.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Cooley Eugene Neal; her grandson, DeAnthony Mackey; her sisters, Leola Wheeler and Sarah Durst; and her brothers, James Mackey, Garnet Mackey, Jr., J.C. Mackey, Lionel Mackey, Elijah Mackey, Robert Lee Mackey, and Frank Mackey.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her loving and supportive daughter, Tonia Dotson; her loving sons, Guy Mackey, David Rogers, and Elijah “Ant-Ant” Mackey; her brother, Andy Mackey; thirteen grandchildren: Michael Mackey, Artisha Mackey, Jolesha Mackey, Davion Rogers, Davonica Rogers, JaVontay Mackey, Anthony Dunn, Elijahnae Mackey, Elisha Mackey, Elijah “Nook-Nook” Mackey, Isaiah Mackey, Elijah Mackey, Jr., and E’lejah Mackey; eight great-grandchildren: Shawn Foster, Keyshawn Foster, Zay’Vontay Foster, Cyra Mackey, Ma’leyah Mackey, De’Angel Caire Mackey, and La’Nae Mackey; four great-great-grandchildren: Miknailo Haughton, Mazi Haughton, Aceion Dunn; her devoted best friend, Erma King; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
