Charles William Contreras passed away on Tuesday July 1, 2025 in Boerne, Texas. He was born on June 26, 1956 in San Marcos to the late Alfonso M. Contreras and Lucia (Garza) Contreras.
Charles is survived by his wife of 29 years, Charlotte (Mills) Contreras; his daughter Chelsea Contreras and son-in-law Diego Aussenac; and his daughter Cierra Contreras. He was looking forward to becoming a grandpa in November 2025. Charles is survived by his siblings Al Contreras, Linda Gutierrez, and John Contreras; his dear sisters-in-law Diana Contreras and Linda Rodriguez; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved mother-in-law, and estate sale and gardening partner, Virginia Mills; and brother- and sister-in law Ron and Patrice Mills. He was preceded in death by his brothers Edward, Jesse, and George Contreras; and father-in-law Charles G. Mills.
Charles was raised in San Marcos and was a 1974 graduate of San Marcos High School, where he was affectionately known as “Pep”. He retired in 2022 from Walmart as a mechanic after 29 years of service.
Charles had a deep love for the wonder of nature and all things sports. He treasured his time outdoors, and especially enjoyed his family’s time living in Colorado Springs. Charles had a green thumb; he loved spending time among his plants and was always happy to start a new project in the garden. He was always collecting unique rocks wherever he went – a gift he passed on to both of his daughters. He also cherished family vacations at the beach where he had fun fishing and looking for shells. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and Texas Longhorns. His passion for sports was infectious—he even passed it along to his son-in-law who became a fan through Charles’ enthusiasm. He enjoyed quieter moments spent cooking, reading, bowling, doing puzzles, throwing washers, and enjoying movies alongside his loved ones. He was extremely creative and enjoyed drawing and creating keepsakes.
Charles will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering strength, and the joy he brought to those around him. He was a devoted husband, father, and family man; a loving friend; and a man of great spirit and humor.
The family would like to thank Amber, Danielle, and Jeremy from Nightingale Hospice Care for the love and respect they provided to Charles.
