Dale Kenneth Friend, of San Antonio, TX, was born in Everett, WA, on November 8, 1935. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on January 23, 2016, after a lengthy illness. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Lois Friend, of Everett, WA. He is survived by his loving girlfriend of 26 years, Joyce Estes, of San Antonio; daughter Connie Polisoto and husband Steve, of Pequea, PA; daughter Kimberly Tankersley and husband Gary, of San Antonio; daughter Stephanie Dougherty and husband Russell, of San Antonio; son Galen Friend and wife Gabriela, of Wylie, TX; sister Barbara Pate, of Everett, WA, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves behind his loving furry companion, Mija. Dale graduated from Everett High School in 1954. Following high school, he served in the Army National Guard and played semi-pro baseball as the pitcher for the Everett Bluejays. After attending Everett Junior College, Dale began his career at Todd Shipyard as an engineering draftsman in Seattle, WA. He spent most of his career as an engineer for Brown and Root and Sonat Offshore Drilling, in Houston, TX. Dale was a member of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, where he served on the Host Ministry Team. For several years, he donated his time at the Christian Service Center as a meal delivery volunteer for Meals on Wheels and as a senior companion for a gentleman with Alzheimer's. The family is deeply appreciative for the excellent care he received from the staff at Mystic Park Nursing Home and Gentiva Hospice. In keeping with his wishes, a private memorial service will be held at Hope Center Church in San Antonio, TX. So sorry to hear about this. I worked with Dale at Sonat and knew him well during that time. He was a good person, important member of our Sonat family and will be missed.
