About 30 years ago, I had the opportunity to work with Mr. Smith’s mother who had a stroke. I was a speech therapist who went into her home. Mr. Smith was there on several occasions. He was such a caring son. He invited me into his home one day. I will never forget the “room of mounted wildlife”. Since then, whenever I drove by his plumbing business or past Fair Ave., I thought of him. What a memorable man. Claudette L’Armee Speech Therapist
Goodbye to a fine friend and respected customer of Wolverine Brass over the many years of our business relationship. We will all miss your wonderful personality and wit. Peace be to you, Gay, and your family. Les
I worked at AAA on Spencer Lane in the membership/customer service section for a number of years and the first time I heard E.L. coming I wondered what I was getting into. Well, this “bear” turned into a “pussy cat” when you got past that rough exterior and I always looked forward to seeing him. He became one of my “unforgetable characters.” I share your loss as do all those who ever knew E.L. Remember, as long as there is one person alive who knew E.L., he will live on.
I am privileged to have worked with and for EL Smith may he rest in peace
Having dealt with E.L. Smith Plumbing Company for almost thirty years, I know what a giant of a man Mr. Smith was, both literally and figuratively. The reputation of the company he founded is testament to what he stood for: fairness, honesty and integrity. It was a honor to know him.
My father was greatly saddened to read of E.L.’s passing and asked that I pass his regards onto to Gay, Greg and Frank. My father Don Baird, worked for E.L for 15 years (59-74) and to this day, as then, has always spoken of E.L. with the highest regard and respect. I think that both E.L. and my dad knew that it “took one good plumber to know another good plumber”! There are many times over the years that my father has repeatly shared fond memories of good times with E.L., not only working with and for him, but fishing and hunting with him as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. God grant him eternal peace. Diane Baird for Don Baird
My condolences to the family. Mr. Smith will be missed very much. I remember him as a man who was larger then life. A strong man, a man with a good heart. I pray that you have peace in your heart and know that he is in God’s arms. God bless you all.
