November 20, 1918 ~ August 17, 2017
Elmo Murry Aycock, Sr. passed peacefully in his sleep in San Antonio, Texas on the morning of August 17, 2017, just three months shy of 99 years old. He was born Saint Elmo Murry Aycock in Hallettsville Lavaca County, Texas on November 20, 1918 to Milton Pink Aycock and Dolly Phillips Aycock. He grew up in East Bernard, Texas with his 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
Elmo was married to his childhood sweetheart, Jimmie D. West Aycock, for 62 years and the loving couple was blessed with three children, Elmo Jr., Shirley and Charles. As a devoted husband and father, he was a courageous protector and generous provider for his family. Affectionately called Granddaddy by his 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren; he strived to impact their lives with his knowledge and wisdom.
Elmo started his career as a janitor with Southwestern Bell and after several awards and promotions he retired as a Linesman and proud member of the Pioneer Club with 35 years of service. After retirement, he and the love of his life relocated from the Willowwood Subdivision, and the great outdoors became his heaven on earth. He lived the life of a self-taught rancher, building his own home while farming and developing the Aycock Estates in St. Hedwig, Texas…all while wearing his signature blue overalls and yelling soo cow.
Mr. Aycock was wise beyond his education and many sought his advice and benefited from his counsel. He was a faithful follower of Gods word throughout his life and was a great debater when it came to the bible. He also really loved to eat, plant and water trees, and read outdoor signs. Elmo was a take-charge man and knew what he wanted and worked hard to get it. The family will honor all of his wishes which included to be cremated with no formal services.
He was preceded into transition by his beloved wife, parents, oldest son/daughter-in-law, son-in-law and 7 siblings.
Those celebrating his legacy and cherishing his memories include daughter, Shirley Woods of San Antonio; son Charles Aycock of Ellenwood, Georgia; brother and sister-in-law Clarence and Viney Aycock; granddaughters Dana DaCosta (Ian), Dawn Aycock, Andrea Aycock, Patrice Trejo (Donald), Lisa Powell (Anthony), Margot Aycock, Micheline Aycock, Carmela Gill (Jesse), Shirley Aycock; grandsons Bradley Woods, Elmo Aycock III, James Galimore II, Dwayne Galimore (Ingrid); and additional dear relatives.
Elmo Aycock will also be fondly remembered by his church family at the Reconciled East End Church of God, friends in St. Hedwig, Texas, Mark Kyle of Embrace Hospice, and friends and family in Georgia where Granddaddy resided from August 2012 to September 2016.

My prayers are with you (Elmo Aycock Family) for we are family also. I always have love in my heart for Mr. and Mrs. Aycock, we always had a great time together when we were together. I miss the times when U would go out to his ranch and buy brown eggs, which is the best. May Almighty Father comfort the whole family with grace, mercy, and peace.
