With deep sorrow and enduring love, we announce the passing of Erik Bernard Spencer, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, and loyal friend. Erik departed this life May 13, 2025- leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, and unwavering dedication to his family.
Born on September 12, 1979 in Grenada, Mississippi, to Clarence Spencer and Peggy McBride, Erik’s life was marked by hard work, quiet determina-tion, and a heart full of love. From an early age he took to heart the values of responsibility and perseverance- traits that defined the man that he would become.
Erik held a CDL and made his living as a professional truck driver- a job he performed with pride and skill. He saw his work not just as a means to provide, but as a way to serve and care for those he loved most. He was a true provider in every sense, always putting the needs of his family above his own.
He was a member of Covenant Community Church where his faith anchored his life and guided his steps. His relationship with God shaped the way he loved his family and treated others- with humility, kindness and deep compassion.
Erik adored his wife, Vernita Spencer, with all of his heart. Their bond was rooted in love, laughter and mutual respect. To their children D’Airra J. Spencer, Ca’Marri L. Spencer, Cy’Onna Annmarie Spencer, and Erik Bernard Spencer Jr., he was more than a father. He was their hero, their protector, and their greatest cheerleader. His presence in their lives was a steady source of strength, guidance and unconditional love.
He is survived by his wife and children, his father, Clarence Spencer and wife Shirley, his mother, Peggy M. James and father Odell James Jr., his siblings Marcus M. Spencer (Christal), Naudia C. James, V. Nicole James, Clifton Joliffi, his special cousins who were like sisters Stacey Mitchell (Alan), Sondra McBride, his loving aunt Bonnie Fisher who was a second mother to him, and many other extended family and friends too numerous to name who loved him deeply and will miss him dearly.
Erik was a proud and passionate fan of the San Francisco 49ers, and his love for football was matched only by his love for family gatherings, road trips, and sharing moments of joy with those closest to him.
Though our hearts are broken, we are comforted by the memories he gave us and the legacy he leaves behind. Erik’s life was a testament to love, loyalty, and the power of presence. He will never be forgotten!
