Gloria N. Frazier

gloria frazier
Gloria Nash Frazier passed away August 11, 2010, at the age of 81. She was born on January 7, 1929, in Cortland, New York, and was raised by her uncle in Penns Park, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Jean McCormick of Conklin, New York, and Betty Prusick of Binghamton, New York. Gloria is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, David Frazier, who was born in Franklin, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her daughter Debra Frazier Quintero of San Antonio, Texas, her husband Denis, and his son Chace; and her daughter Susan Frazier of Lansing, Michigan, and her partner Rebecca Huntington. Gloria lived in New York City where she worked for Crowell-Collier Publishing Co. She met her husband when she was volunteering as a canteen hostess during World War II, and he was on shore leave. They married in 1952 and started their life together in Erie, Pennsylvania. They moved to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where they raised their children and were active members of the Sandusky Sailing Club on Lake Erie the Midget Ocean Racing Club (MORC). When both children were in school, Gloria worked for Portage Newspaper Supply, a division of Knight Ridder Publishing. They retired to St. Croix, USVI, in 1982, and Gloria worked for the King Christian Hotel. While in St. Croix, Gloria became a basketball fan as she proudly watched the college and professional career of her neighbor, San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan, evolve after being an enthusiastic supporter of Tim as a member of the St. Croix Dolphins swim team. In 1993, Gloria and David moved to San Antonio, Texas. They became involved with the Alamo Chapter of the Navy League and the Alzafar Shrine. Gloria was active in the neighborhood Cellular on Patrol and patrolled regularly with her husband even after suffering a debilitating stroke that left her paralyzed on her left side and affected her short-term memory. Before her stroke, which happened on the first cruise she had ever taken, Gloria and Dave enjoyed exploring Texas and traveling back "home" to the northeastern United States to visit family and friends. In May 2009, Gloria moved to a care home called "Paradise Living" where she resided until her death. She spent a good deal of time playing solitaire on the computer which kept her mind active. She frequently attended stroke group support meetings, and a favorite excursion was a trip to Red Lobster. Her daughter used to tell her "she never met a shrimp she didn't like!" Her husband remained dedicated to caring for her and spent several hours with her nearly every day after she moved from their home. Gloria was devoted to her husband and daughters, and she lived a full life. She would agree with her husband's words "we are proud to say that we did everything in life we wanted to do."

  1. My deepest sympathy for the family. May the promises in the Holy Scriptures brings comfort to you. The Bible promises one day soon, death will be swallowed up forever-Isaiah 25:8. We yearn for the day to see our dear loved ones again. Jesus promises, the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out -John chapter 5 verses 28, 29.

  2. David altho I stopped coming to the stroke support meetings I never forgot about you and Gloria and I never stopped praying for both of you. Now I’m praying for your strength now and in the days to come….Love you much…Ada
