Resided in:
San Antonio, Texas
Idella Ann Elam, 66, went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2023. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, on February 20, 1957, to Jeff Elam Jr. and Rosalie Garrett. Idella was raised with Mary Elam and her siblings in San Antonio, TX. The eldest of her generation, Idella was the matriarch of the family, and there was nothing she loved more than family. Idella raised her two children independently and always provided everything they needed and more. Her hard work and determination persevered through every obstacle in life. Idella had a way of making everyone feel special. Every family member felt like the favorite because she always made you feel like you were the most important person in her life. She would actively listen to what you had to say and cast no judgment. More than anything, Idella adored being a grandma.
Idella loved listening to the Blues, reading a book whenever she had a chance, and she especially loved cooking. We will be forever grateful for the years we had to share with her, and she will be dearly missed!
Idella is preceded in death by her father, Jeff Elam Jr., and mother, Mary Elam.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mashandra Elam-Canty (Derrick Canty) and Darayton “Ray” Elam; mother, Rosalie “Rose” Singleton; siblings, Vandia “Van” Elam, Anthony Elam, Gerina “Gee” Elam-Sampson, Stacy Singleton-Williams, Donnie Singleton, Tomasha Morris, Lori Fields, Tanesha Hughes, and Bianca Morris; grandchildren, Darayton “DJ” Elam Jr., Devon Moore-Elam, Alejandra Elam, Cynthia Elam, Christina Elam, Darius Canty, Dashawn Elam, Neveah Elam, Kaydee “Blayz” Elam; nieces and nephews, Lakisha Pollard, Tanisha Elam, Shudale Elam, Teneva Elam, Tiandra Sampson, Jenae Johnson, Martin Williams and Trent Sampson; and a host of aunts, uncles, loving family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Empower House (801 N. Olive, San Antonio, TX 78202) in memory of Idella.
