Isaac Lanier Jones, Sr."Ike" was a native of Waco, Texas, the seventh child of Abby and Louis Jones. He graduated from Moore High School in Waco and received his bachelor's degree from Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama. For 17 years he worked in sales at the Pearl Brewery and would later retire in 1987 from the Texas Highway Department as an Internal Reviewer. His community involvement included former Vice President of the United Way, Chairman of the Ella Austin Community Center, Board of Directors of the San Antonio Symphony, American Red Cross, St. Luke's Episcopal School Board, Alamo Branch of the YMCA and was a life member of the NAACP and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.Ike was an avid golfer and upon retirement joined the staff at Willow Springs Golf Course. In this position he introduced several young people to the sport of golf. He volunteered his time to teach the fundamentals of the game to several girls and boys in the community. Ike also served as a mentor to young men in the community assisting in the development of valuable life skills that lead to good citizenship and was recognized by the Davis Middle School for his volunteer effort to coach golf to students interested in pursuing the sport. Ike and his wife of 65 years, Katie, have been devoted members of St. Philip's Episcopal Church for over 60 years where he represented the church in local, regional and national church positions. He served as Senior Warden, usher, member of the Board of Directors of the West Texas Episcopal Diocese and the National Episcopal Commission for Black Ministries.Ike and Katie have been blessed with four children, Kathryn Brantley (Cornell), Karyne Jones, (Aris Allen, Jr.) Isaac L. Jones, Jr. (Vivian) , Michael Jones (Sharon), eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two sisters, Martha Lewis and Irma Coleman, many nephews and nieces and cousins. Visitation, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 6 pm to 8 pm, Meadowlawn Memorial Park Chapel, 5611 East Houston Street. Funeral Services, Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 11:00 am, St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 1310 Pecan Valley Drive. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Philip's Episcopal Church.

I always enjoyed the brotherly banter we shared. Ike was delighted to learn that my only ancestor in the Civil War was a member of Grant’s staff and that I was therefore ineligible for a white robe and hood. I admired him as a man, appreciated him as a co-worker and loved him as a friend. God rest him and comfort you!
