joan barcellona
Joan Weaver Barcellona went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the age of 93 in San Antonio, TX. Joan was born to James and Nellie Weaver on February 21, 1922 in Birmingham, England. Growing up in England during the unrest of World War II, Joan was witness to the Birmingham Blitz that made her city one of the most heavily bombed areas in the United Kingdom. In order to support the war effort, Joan spent time working in an airplane factory connecting wings to the Spitfire aircrafts. Soon after, Joan met a wounded soldier from the United States. She would then follow her heart across the Atlantic to marry Gaetano R. Barcellona in San Antonio, TX in 1946. Throughout her life in Texas, Joan raised 5 children, worked as an ICU nurse for 22 years, was a founding member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she served as a member of the choir and on the St. Peter and St. Joseph Children's Home auxiliary. She also was a volunteer coach for the Special Olympics and volunteered at BAMC. Her passions involved world travel, dancing, painting and having conversations with her loved ones over a hot cup of tea. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gaetano, and her daughter, Denise. Joan is survived by her children and their spouses: Bruce and Diana Barcellona, Barry Barcellona, Deborah and Michael High, and Christopher Barcellona; her 5 grandchildren: Bruce and Charlene Barcellona Jr., Anthony Barcellona, Taeylor Barcellona, Michelle High and Rachel High; and 5 great-grandchildren: Bruce Barcellona III, Bryson Barcellona, Aidan Connor, Lillannah Connor and Finnegan Connor. Visitation will be held 11 - 11:30 am, Thursday, December 31, 2015 with a Rosary recited at 11:30 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My deepest condolences for the loss of your loved one. It may seem hard to find comfort after such a loss, but The Bible tells us where we can find it. 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 says that God is, “the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trials”. He will care for your family during this difficult time.

  2. Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss…our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

  3. Debbie, I was so shocked and saddened to hear about your mother’s passing. I’d guess I’d forgotten about her coming from England. You look so much like her. May your memories of her bring you comfort and lighten your heart. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers in the days to come.

    A big hug my friend,

    Deb Porter
