Born in: San Antonio, Texas
Resided in: Adkins, Texas

John Anthony Mecke 72, of Adkins, peacefully entered his eternal home on December 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on October 22, 1953 in San Antonio, TX to Anthony and Marjorie Olle Mecke. After graduating St. Gerard’s Catholic High School, he began a lifelong career in the trucking industry. He worked for many years as a long-haul truck driver for Colonial Bakery before continuing his career with SYGMA, where he devoted over 30 years of service. John retired as Manager of Transportation and was a mentor to many, earning deep respect from his fellow employees.

John had a deep love for the outdoors and found great joy in fishing, hunting, gardening and especially woodworking. His passion for woodworking began early in life, a skill passed down from his father. Above all else, John cherished time spent with his four grandchildren. He shared with them his love of fishing on family camping and beach trips and could always be found on weekends proudly supporting their various sports.

On April 10, 1976, John married the love of his life, Nancy Campbell Mecke. Together they shared 49 years of marriage and raised two sons. During their life together, John and Nancy ran a wedding business and enjoyed traveling, including frequent trips to Las Vegas and Rockport.

John was a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, and a beloved brother, uncle and friend. He will forever be remembered for his kind heart, steady presence, and unwavering love and guidance for his family.

John is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Mecke; his sons Anthony Mecke (wife Rhonda) and Brad Mecke (wife Krystle) and his beloved grandchildren John, Bryson, Reagan and Kynslee; brother Larry Mecke (wife Lisa); sisters Sandy Murray (husband Wilson) and Judy Moeller, along with numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in John’s memory to the Lymphoma Research Foundation at giving.lymphoma.org.
