Joie Spillers Laney

August 8, 1933 ~ February 11, 2015

On February 11th, 2015, Joie Spillers Laney, beloved mother, became another angel in God's garden. Born August 8th 1933, Joie was the adopted daughter of father E.G. (Jack) Spillers, who precedes her in death. A life-long resident of San Antonio, she is survived by son, John Thomas (Tommy), daughter-in-law, Alicia, and granddaughter Joie Rose. Joie was known for being fiercely independent and a hard worker all her life. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1951, she traveled and broadened her horizons working as an airline stewardess. She was married at Christ Episcopal Church in 1953 and a year later, became a precious mother to her only child. To devote more time to her family, she started a new career in 1960, where she was employed at Avis Rent-a-Car for the next 15 years. Seeking new challenges, she attended San Antonio College, and earned her real estate license. During her career as a real estate agent, which spanned over 30 years, she was very successful and loved by clients, winning the People's Choice Spirit Award twice as well as earning the title Million Dollar Producer. As much as her work fulfilled her, nothing made her happier than throwing parties for her friends, spending time working on her garden, and being with her family. We will never forget the joy she gave us. She will be dearly missed. Joie was an advocate of animal rights and an active member of local animal rescue groups, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The San Antonio Humane Society, Save the Elephants, or Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation at www.wildlife-rescue.org

Guestbook

  1. Joie was a wonderful person and was giving of her time to assist co-workers. My daughter, Holly Hammon, and I worked with Joie at Bradfield, a real estate firm.

  2. Joie; You made such an impression on me way back when I was fresh out of real estate school (1998). You generously gave your time and shared your knowledge & wisdom which I still recall and rely on often. It’s been a long time since I saw you but you’re always in my heart. With Love, Timothy
