Juan A. Martinez

Juan A. Martinez was born on May 6, 1949, in Universal City, Texas, to Brigido Martinez and Leanor Arce Martinez. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Seguin, Texas, in Guadalupe County, where his father found work in the fields.

In those days, there was little time for school. As soon as the children reached the age of ten, they began working in the fields from sunup to sundown. By the time Juan and his siblings were sixteen or seventeen years old, they began working at Randolph Laundry Cleaners, where they remained employed until the cleaners closed in the late 1980s.

Juan never married nor had children; however, he was a devoted and loving uncle to his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed going fishing, even if it was just down the street at the Schertz pond. He and his nephew would often ride their bikes with fishing poles in hand, spending the day fishing, relaxing, and enjoying a couple of cold ones.

Another favorite pastime of Juan’s was dancing. He especially loved doing the twist with his sisters while listening to Chubby Checker, creating joyful memories filled with laughter and music.

Juan passed away on January 22, 2026, at the age of 76. His memory will be forever cherished by his sister, Gloria Martinez and his nieces and nephew, Maria R. Gutierrez and her husband Gilbert Gutierrez, Silvano M. Martinez, and Isabel Aguayo.
