My prayers and condolences to Karen’s family. May The Lord grant you peace and comfort during this difficult time. I worked with her at Highlands High School. She was a wonderful teacher and person.

Born in:
San Antonio, Texas
Resided in:
San Antonio, Texas
Karen Denise Harris was born July 9, 1961 in San Antonio, Texas. She entered into eternal rest Tuesday July 22, 2025.
Karen was the first and only child born to the union of Annie Hysaw Harris and Charles Ray Harris. Both preceded her in death, as well as her stepfather Herman Rosser. Being an only child, Karen longed and hungered for siblings. So she took on her mother’s siblings (5 brothers) as her own. These brothers loved her and treated her just like she was their own little sister.
Karen accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. As she grew, she continued her journey with the Lord at Greater Lincoln Park Temple under the pastorate of Elder William A. Ellis. Going to Church and establishing relationships with her Church brothers and sisters brought a degree of joy to Karen.
Karen attended schools in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Providence High School in May 1979. She continued her educational studies at Our Lady of the Lake University where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in August 1985. She later received a Masters Degree in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio in May 2003.
Karen worked as a Dispatch Operator for the San Antonio Police Department for several years, before moving on to work in the San Antonio Independent School District as a Special Education Teacher. She loved working in the Special Ed. Department with her students as well as with her co-workers. The last school she worked at was Highlands High School before retiring after 20 + years. Karen had a vibrant personality and joyful spirit. Karen was such a wonderful talented person who displayed kindness, humility, considerateness, and generosity. She had a comforting presence as she offered words of wisdom to those around her. She was loved and respected by many. She will be sorely missed. She leaves to forever cherish her memories her two remaining brothers/uncles Booker T. Hysaw, Jr. and William E. Hysaw; and a host of other relatives, friends, and co-workers.

I met Karen in the 7th grade at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School. She was such a kindhearted, sweet individual. We both ended up attending Providence High School. It was then that we found out we live around the corner from each other. Literally one street over. She was on Yucca, and I lived on Lone Oak. We would ride to school with each other from time to time. My mom ended up moving me from Providence High School my senior year, but we kept in touch. That year we made plans to attend the Battle of Flowers Parade on April 27, 1979. I picked Karen up and we headed downtown. Just as we began looking for parking, Karen realized she had left her wallet at home. God watched out for us that day and kept us from something tragic. We went all the way to her house, picked up her wallet and then headed back downtown. As we returned to the area, we got word that a gunman had opened fire on the crowd. It happened in the very section we had purchased our seats in. Karen and I were two teenage church girls who knew it was nothing but the Grace of God who kept us out of harm’s way that day. Then years later I went to work for Broadway Bank. In my latter years before I retired, I had the responsibility of planning the two events we had for retirees every year. On the list was Ms. Annie’s name. I ended up working for and retiring from the same place as Karen’s mother. Such a small world. Rest well my friend. I will see you later!
