With heavy hearts but gratitude for a life so fully and lovingly lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, friend, and church family member, who departed this life on October 8, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 6, 1963, Katherine Lynn Moran, affectionately known as “Kat” graced this world with warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith.
A woman of deep compassion and selflessness, Kat lived her life in service to others — not out of obligation, but from the overflowing love in her heart. She accepted Christ at a young age and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life, not only reading scripture but living it daily. Her presence was a blessing to all who knew her.
For many years, Kat served faithfully as the church secretary at Medical Center Baptist Church, where she formed cherished bonds with her church family. Her smile, encouragement, and tireless dedication to others left an indelible mark on the congregation and beyond.
Kat had a special heart for all of God’s creatures, especially her beloved cats. Her fur babies — Suzie, Mouse, and dog Jade — were treasured companions, always close by and always loved.
Kat is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 17 years, Adolfo “Rudy” Moran; her father, Austin Rains; and her dear sister Patricia “Patty” Schoonover, who passed just days before her. Though our hearts ache at this double loss, we find peace in knowing they are now reunited in heaven — whole, joyful, and at peace.
Left to honor her memory are her beloved daughters Aidan Moran, whom she lovingly cared for, Shannon Firth, and Viva Moran; her sister Barbara Reatherford; her brother Andrew Bryant; and her niece Samira Firth. She also leaves behind a circle of treasured friends including Eileen Morgan, as well as friends from Medical Center Baptist Church, including Jim King, B.J and Cathy Palomo, Pastor Roger Box and his wife Ann, Pastor Darwin Lowe and his wife Laurie, Amy Williams, Stacey Evans, and Nancy Keller — all of whom became her second family.
Though our sorrow is deep, we find comfort in the legacy of love, grace, and faith Kat leaves behind. She is no longer in pain — in fact, she is free, rejoicing in the presence of her Savior, embraced by those who went before her.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:23
