Laverne Herriott Butler passed from this life to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus on December 15, 2025 in Bryan, Texas. She was born May 29, 1924 in Chico, Texas passing at the age of 101 years, six months, 16 days.

The love of her life, Robert Edwin Butler, proceeded her in death June, 1969. They were married January 1945 in Denton, Texas during World War II when he received special leave to return from the war in Europe. While Laverne lived many places in her life, she claimed San Antonio, Texas as her home for more than fifty years.

Laverne was also preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Josephine Herriott, and two brothers, Carroll Herriott and James Herriott. Following her husband’s death, she was left to raise her four children alone. Her children are son Rob Butler and wife Vickie of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son Hal Butler of Spring Branch, Texas; David Butler and wife Beth of Marble Falls, Texas; daughter Joanne Kline of Bryan, Texas. She is survived by 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

She was an accomplished administrative assistant at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and also loved to serve as church secretary for several churches she attended. She taught the Bible for many years and gave herself to every church where she was a member. After her retirement, she traveled, taught English as a Second Language to hundreds of students, and delivered for Meals on Wheels.

Although small in stature, Laverne was strong in heart and determination living through many challenges in life with a true faith in the Lord whom she loved with all her heart. Her children and grandchildren dearly loved her rich wisdom and adventurous spirit. She was an avid reader and game player…both smart and wise.
