Leroy Cunningham

Leroy Cunningham entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born on August 13, 1944 in St. Hedwig, Texas to Ernest Cunningham Sr. and Betty Fields. Leroy grew up in St. Hedwig and obtained his education from Midway School in St. Hedwig, Texas, and East Central High School in the East Central ISD located in San Antonio, Texas.

After attending High School, Leroy was hired as a Commercial Truck Driver where he worked for several Trucking Companies. He was later hired at Central Freight Trucking Company as a Truck Driver. He retired after 27 years of faithful service to the company.

Leroy had a passion for sports. He loved playing baseball, dominoes, and pool; he was well known as a Pool Shark. He also loved to drive race cars and attended drag racing strips.

Leroy was united in Holy Matrimony to Catherine Collins, who preceded him in death. Catherine had a son, Ronnie Collins, who Leroy raised as his own son, also preceded him in death.

He later married Betty Jo Williams. This union ended in a dissolution.

Leroy is preceded in death by both of his parents, and two sisters, Evelyn Fields Allen and Dorris Mae Fields Carter. Also preceding Leroy in death were his half-brothers and half-sisters, Ernest Cunningham Jr., Samuel Cunningham, Gertude Cunningham, and Geraldine Cunningham. Left to cherish his memory are the following family members; his brother, Howard Fields and two half brothers, Joe Cunningham (Sally Ann) and Charles Cunningham (Debra). Also left to cherish Leroy’s memory are the following Special Friends: Michael McKnight, Eunice Cunningham, Laura Williams; Ornar Covington, Baby Girl, Marie Yates, Lucy Taylor, and Carolyn Hardin.

Additionally, his memory will be cherished by a host of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of loving relatives and friends.
