LeRoy Walter Kramer

leroy kramer
LeRoy Walter Kramer, age 78, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016 while fishing at Calaveras Lake. He was born in Harper, Texas. In 1957, he married the love of his life, Selma Werner, and they celebrated 57 years together before she passed away in 2014. LeRoy is preceded in death by wife Selma, his father Marvin, and mother Lydia Kramer. He is survived by two sons: David and wife Wanda, Darrel and wife Connie; three daughters: Beverly and husband Mike Smith, Rhonda and husband Kenneth Sanders, and Lydia Kramer in addition to 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. LeRoy graduated from Harper High School in 1955. He was a jack of all trades and had a very interesting job history. His resume shows he had a milk delivery route, was a security guard, worked at the Federal Reserve Bank, did a stint in the Army National Guard, and 20+ years at Texas Commerce Bank. He retired from his banking career as Senior Vice President and Cashier of Operations. He then began his entrepreneurial career with a car business and as a dog breeder. Pop, as he was called by his family, was known for his big heart, quick wit, and sense of humor. He had a quiet strength and adored his family. He loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. In fact, when he worked as a Security Guard, he would bring his rod and reel to work with him and spent his 'workday' checking the property and then checking his line for fish. As his health declined he told his family he missed Selma and was ready to go when God called him home. His greatest wish was to be able to continue to live independently, maintain his garden, take care of his dogs, and continue to fish until the end. Because he was always trying to figure out a way to catch more fish, he began experimenting with baiting a fishing hole. He was on day 3 of his experiment, which was proving to be successful by the way, when he passed away. He spent his last moments in a place that he loved, doing what he loved most.

  1. LeRoy was a very special and highly respected man. He always greeted me with a hug and a smile. I believe he made it to heaven just in time for Valentines Day and is celebrating with his bride Selma. What a beautiful reunion it must have been.

  2. I just saw this Beverly, my condolences goes out to you and your family. I know it’s been a year or so but I still want to let you know I’m senting prayers up to heaven for life time friend.
