Maria Eugenia Jasso

Maria Eugenia Jasso, lovingly called “Chenia” by her family, peacefully joined our Lord on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the age of

69. Born in Mexico to the late Socorro Cruz Colorado and her father, Alberto Jasso Carbajal. Maria’s roots were the bedrock of her unwavering spirit and boundless love.

A fiercely devoted mother and grandmother, Maria’s resilience defined her life. She faced every challenge, including a triumphant battle against breast cancer, with unshakeable faith and stubborn determination, teaching her children, Zulema Alvarez, Zoraida Alvarez, and Emmanuel Alvarez, to persevere through adversity.

Her home was a sanctuary: open to anyone in need, filled with the aroma of her morning coffee and pan dulce shared with cherished comadres, and echoing with the romántica melodies she sang in her soulful voice.

Maria’s hands nurtured life. Her garden flourished with fruit trees and resilient cacti, symbols of her own strength. She found joy in bargain-hunting, surprising loved ones with small gifts and treats, and sneaking chocolate with her adored granddaughter, Zariah Salazar (with a grandson eagerly awaited). Her laughter rang loudest during evenings spent watching Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento with Urbano Alvarez, father of her children, as they playfully judged performances side-by-side.

Though Maria never withheld her opinions, her candid words were legendary, and her heart held no grudges. She loved unconditionally, always prioritizing others over herself. Her legacy lives on in the fruit trees she planted, the songs she hummed, and the courage she instilled in her family.

Maria is deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, six siblings, and Urbano Alvarez, whose shared memories remain a testament to her vibrant spirit.
