Marian Patricia Greenwood was born on August 3, 1949 to Alfred Greenwood and Evelyn Greenwood in Folsom, Louisiana. She was the second child born into their loving family. At an early age Marian had a relationship with God and was baptized at Greater Payne Chapel AME in Folsom, Louisiana. She was very active in the church participating in Sunday school and the choir. Along with her older sister Anna, Marian would play the piano at church. Following in her father's footsteps, Marian also played the organ. Marian had a happy childhood. She was quite the tomboy and preferred climbing trees rather than playing with dolls. She attended Folsom Rosenwald Elementary School in Folsom, Louisiana where her father was the principal and her mother was the first grade teacher. Marian was a bright Honor Roll student always excelling in her studies without much preparation or study time. Marian was in the National Honor's Society and named in Who's Who Among America's High School Students. Marian was not only savvy with the keyboard but she also played the trombone in the high school band. Being book smart and musically inclined were not her only strengths. Marian was quite athletic and played basketball beginning in elementary school through her stellar high school years where she was the star and top scorer of her high school basketball team. Marian graduated in 1967 from Washington Parish High School in Franklinton, Louisiana. Following high school Marian attended Grambling state University in Grambling, Louisiana where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Institutional Management graduating Cum Laude in 1971. While at Grambling State University, Marian pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Upon graduation she completed a Dietetic Internship in 1971 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Marian joined the United States Air Force and served as a 1st Lieutenant Clinical Dietician. She was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada and at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Following her military career, Marian began working as a dietician for Audie L Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San Antonio, Texas in 1974. While maintaining her career and household, Marian attended graduate school and received her Master of Arts in Adult Education from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas in 1982. July 8, 1972 Marian married Curtis Brothers of San Antonio, Texas. With that marriage, she happily gained three step children, Brian Wilson, Sherri Brothers and Donald Brothers. Several years later, Marian became the proud mother of Evelyn Danielle Brothers and Thomas Jason Brothers. She loved her children dearly. Her kind, selfless, unconditional love for Evelyn and Thomas was noticed by all. Marian also had a great relationship with her sister Anna's two sons as well as the host of nieces and nephews she gained from her union with Curtis. Everyone loved Aunt Marian. She was a virtuous woman and a role model. Her gentle temperament, heart of gold and knack for baking simply attracted people to her. As an adult Marian remained faithful to God and gave her time and energy selflessly to her church. She was a devoted member of Bethel United Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas for more than forty years. She was involved in and headed up many ministries. She served as church musician, playing both the piano and organ. Marian was a Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible school teacher. Marian also served as President of the United Methodist Women's ministry. After 33 years of service with Audie L Murphy, Marian retired in 2007. Following her retirement, Marian relocated to Dallas, Texas to be closer to her daughter, Evelyn. She quickly became part of an entirely new family in Dallas where she received the nickname of endearment "Mama M." Mama M. became the mom to so many of her daughter's friends. The home she shared with Evelyn was the meeting place for holiday celebrations as everyone loved her cooking and baking, as well as her sweet, welcoming personality. Moving to Dallas also gave Marian the opportunity to try new hobbies. She quickly took a liking to water aerobics and attended classes often. Through this activity she met a number of friends who became like additional family members. They shared a mutually adoration of one another. Marian joined Friendship Baptist Church of The Colony after moving to North Texas. One day after service a member asked Marian if she would attend one of the Mature Ministry meetings. From that moment forward, Marian and her Mature Ministry members were inseparable. They filled a space in her heart that had been empty since she left her San Antonio church family. Marian spearheaded one of the ministry's major endeavors, the "Touch of Kindness" Homeless Project for three years. As a result of her commitment, ability to be a great leader and exceptional organizational skills, the ministry was very successful in meeting their annual goals of providing toiletries to the homeless. Marian Patricia Greenwood Brothers departed this life to be with the Lord on October 20, 2016 in Plano, Texas. Her hospital room was filled with more than fifteen people praying over her. Hospital staff members came by the room to cry and pay their respects. This is a true testament to the lives she touched and how many she leaves behind that will miss her dearly. She has always been an angel, an angel right here on Earth. Marian was preceded in death by her father and mother, Alfred and Evelyn Greenwood and her husband Curtis Brothers. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Evelyn Brothers of Dallas, Texas; son Thomas Brothers of San Antonio, Texas; sister Anna (Peter) Garrett of Folsom, Louisiana and their sons Peter Garrett, Jr of Los Angeles, California and Alfred Garrett of Dallas, Texas; nephews, nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends.
