Today, we celebrate the beautiful life of Marie C. Applewhite a woman of faith, strength, grace, and unwavering love.
Marie was born on March 22, 1943, in Seguin, Texas, and on February 9, 2026, in Houston, Texas, she peacefully answered God’s call home at the age of 82 While our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing she is resting in the arms of the Lord she served so faithfully.
Marie was a devoted Christian whose life reflected her deep and abiding faith She did not just attend church she worked in the church. She served faithfully as Vice President of the Usher Board, Treasurer of the Missionary Society, and President of the Pastor’s Aide. Whatever her hands found to do for the Lord, she did it with excellence, humility, and love.
If you truly knew Marie, you knew her kitchen was a place of joy especially at Christmas. The aroma of homecooked meals and sweet desserts would fill the house, and somehow she made room for everyone. Those holiday dinners weren’t Just about food they were about family, laughter, storytelling, and love. She created moments that became moments and those memories will forever comfort us.
Marie had a nurturing spirit that reached far beyond her immediate household. She lovingly raised her nieces and nephews as her own, teaching them to stand together. support one another, and never let family drift apart. She didn’t just talk about love she lived it.
Marie found joy in life’s single pleasures word puzzles spread across the table. coloring books nearby, doodles on paper, and long phone conversations filled with updates, stories, and yes, a little bit of family “current events” Her worm smile could calm you. Her laughter could fill a room. And if you needed to know anything about the family history, you didn’t have to search far you just called Marie.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Manuel Applewhite, her daughter, Katherin Applewhite, her parents George and Eva Cunningham, and her siblings Valdo Cunningham, John Cunningham Sr. Delton Cunningham, France Jefferson, Beatrice Cunningham, and Ada Bedford No doubt, there is a joyful reunion in Heaven.
Marie leaves to carry her legacy forward her children Sharon Kimball, Alton Applewhite (Rosemary) Ricky J. Applewhite (Marcel) Yvette Applewhite and Ruby L Applewhite her sister Maryalice Williams and Eva Bedford, and a host of grandchildren, great-great grandchildren nieces, nephews, family, and friends who were blessed by her life.
Marie’s legacy is not written only in records or roles she held it is written in the hearts she shaped, the faith she modeled, the meals she prepared, the prayers she prayed, and the love she gave so freely.
Well done good and faithful servant.
Rest peacefully, Mother, Grandma, Sister, Auntie and Friend.

Thank you for ALL of the love you showered on your babies over the years. You poured so much into them and the parents. I will forever be grateful for the love and care shown to McKenzy and I. You will be missed! Take rest in your reward! ❤️
I’m deeply sorry for the passing of Ms. Marie.
She loved each and everyone of her children
so uniquely. I will always remember her and each one of you all helped my mother with my son.(his first babysitters) Thank you for sharing your mom with Terry. 😃 You all meant the world to her.
Praying for all of you during this time and cherish all the memories with her. God bless each of you.

I don’t believe I ever met your mom, but she had to have been an awfully fine person to raise a son like you Alton.
To the family of Marie Applewhite. I was saddened to hear Sis
Applewhite passed. We at Mt Olive MBC in Ft Worth enjoyed having her as a member. She was a dedicated member and shared her sweet smile and spirit with us all. Her ministry was calling everyone on their birthday with a joyful birthday wish. Even after moving away she continued to call our members. A small gesture but it showed ❤️. We appreciate her love shown to us and will definitely miss her
May God bless you and comfort you during this time.
