Mary Gutierrez Herrera

Born in:
San Antonio, Texas
Resided in:
San Antonio, Texas
On September 11, 2025, our devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, cherished sister, and faithful friend, Mary Gutierrez Herrera, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by the love of her family, at the age of 69 in her home in San Antonio, Texas.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Mary graduated from Highlands High School and built a life rooted in faith, family, and caring for those she loved. She shared 48 beautiful years of marriage with her husband, Jesse Herrera. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Jessie Dyan Herrera and James Andrew Herrera, and were recently blessed with their grandson, Jaxson James Herrera, who brought Mary immeasurable joy.
Mary lived a life full of love, strength, and selflessness. A natural caregiver, she was the heart of her family—always putting others before herself and nurturing everyone around her. She had a special way of making people feel seen, heard, and loved.
A passionate cook and a true pit master, Mary found great joy in bringing people together through food. Her barbecue was legendary, notably her brisket, and her family gatherings were filled with warmth, laughter, and the unforgettable smell of her meals. She especially loved spending time outdoors—fishing, camping on the beach, waking up to the sound of seagulls and ocean waves, and cooking breakfast in the sand. Those mornings, filled with the smell of bacon drifting on the sea breeze, are memories her family will treasure forever.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Jesse; her children, Jessie Dyan Herrera and James Andrew Herrera; and her beloved grandson, Jaxson James Herrera. She is also survived by her siblings: John M. Gutierrez (Isabel), Adelina Galvan (Bartolo), Ernest Gutierrez (late wife Gloria), and Isabel Ramos (Salvador), Ruth Alonso (late husband Alfonso) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving parents, Juan and Mary Gutierrez whom she now rejoins in eternal peace.
She will also be lovingly remembered by her cherished fur babies, Jake the Dog and Kevin the Cat, who brought her comfort and companionship.
Though her earthly journey has ended, Mary’s legacy of love, kindness, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family finds peace in knowing she is now pain-free and embraced in God’s presence.
