Mattie Pearl Garrison was born on March 18, 1936 in Mexia, Texas. She was the scond child born of ten children to the late Wesley and Alice Hobbs. She attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School, Booker T. Washington Elementary, Douglas Junion High School and Phillis Wheatley High School. In 1953 Mattie Pearl married the late Lionel Garrison, Sr. and to this union three children were born, Lionel "Butch" Garrison, Jr. in 1955, Lemorn "Jim" Garrison in 1956, and their only daughter Yolanda Yvette Garrison in 1962.
Mattie Pearl attended St. Phillips College where she received her GED and was accepted into the Nursing Program, graduating with her LVN license in 1973. She began her career as an LVN for Bexar County Hospital District and later worked for Baptist Memorial Hospital until she retired in 1998.
Mattie Pearl joined Jacob's Chapel UMC under the late Rev. Muse, later transferring her membership in 2008 to The Bright and Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Sammie J. Shuler.
Mattie Pearl was also lovingly known as Momma, Grandman, Great Grandma, Auntie Mattie, Sister, Sister-in-Law and best friend. On November 27, 2011, Mattie Pearl passed away at her home in San Antonio, Texas. Although she was frail, but alert in her passing, she gave us all such courage and inspiration to have faith and trust in the Lord, and reminded us all of the precious gift of Life through Jesus Christ.
Throughout her illness she was comforted by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, pastor, church family and friends. She touched the lives of so many people with her laughter, smile, generosity and her trademark sense of humor. She loved fishing, being with her family and having a good time with friends.
Mattie Pearl Garrison was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Alice Hobbs, one sister, Bennie Mae Foster; three brothers, Cleveland, William S. and James Wesley Hobbs.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, three children: Lionel Garrison, Jr., Lemorn Lee(Mary)Garrison and Yolanda Yvette Garrision; four grandchildren: Demetrious, Marla, Lamar and Justin; six great grandchildren: Vonshae, Keivon, Keith, Mikey, Demetrious and Justin; five sisters, Savannah(Willie)Robinson of Richmond, California, Minnie(Raymond)Goode of Victoria, Texas, Lillian(Aaron)Cannady of Fairfield, California, Alma Fucles of Phoenix, Arizona and Grace(Byrd) Hobbs of San Antonio, Texas; a special Aunt Nathalia Sance from Richmond, California.
She will forever be remembered by her family, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He recommends his own love to us, while we were yet sinners, his son Jesus Christ died for us -Romans chapter 5 verse 8. Jesus sacrifice paved a way for us all. Jesus promised one day soon, “all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out” -John chapter five verses 28 and 29. We will actually be reunited with our dear loved ones again here on earth in perfect health -Revelation chapter twenty-one verse 3 and 4. Psalms chapter 37 verse 29.
