Born in: San Antonio, Texas
Resided in: San Antonio, Texas

Mike, “Uncle Mike,” “Big Mike,” Michael: for 61 years, God had allowed you to serve as a unique glue, holding the Giles family together, while extending its reach through linking numerous friends and acquaintances through the power of relationship. You served as a faithful witness to the graduation of your nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from youth and into adulthood, instilling in each of them the values of heart, responsibility and a commitment As Big As The State Of Texas. We recognize your endearing role as mentor to names which are now beginning to resonate in unique corners of our world: Leon, JR; Keiandra; Anthony, Tanisha, Marcel; Keegan; Tina; Michael; Afani; Kevon; Donavan; Manisha; Destiny; Whitney, Tyzaiah; Israel; Montel; Kiearra; Jada; John, JD and a host of cousins, friends and other people’s children that benefited from your wisdom, guidance and protection. You executed the role of “Uncle Mike” like none before you!

Michael Avery Giles, born in San Antonio, Texas on July 6, 1964, was the fourth son to bless the union of Leon Giles of Yoakum, Texas and Rita Mae (Robinson-Giles) Lee, of San Antonio, Texas. “Big Mike” attended Highlands High School in San Antonio as a star football player informing opponents “Do Not Touch My Helmet!” Upon graduating high school in 1983, Mike became well-versed in several skills, namely, construction, auto sales, health care, food service (Michael really could cook!) and life-instruction.

Highly visible, Michael remained involved in the lives of his beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and any others willing to partake of his bold advice. Michael took an unapologetic stand on the important issues of life, expounding his faith in God.

At an early age he attended Childress Memorial Church of God in Christ and would later be baptized at both Conqueror Assembly Church and The Rose of Sharon Ministries Fellowship. He received his baptism with the Holy Ghost at Conqueror Assembly Church. He preached preparedness for God’s soon return until God called him to rest on September 30, 2025.

Although preceded in death by his father, Leon Giles, and his Step-father, Clarence Myles Lee, Michael’s indelible legacy remains through the family and friends left to share his remarkable life. They include his mother, Rita Mae (Robinson-Giles) Lee; his daughter, Stacie Y. Giles and his three grand-daughters (Ashante Desiree, Shayla Rose and Keisha Nicole Brooks); five brothers – Leon (Velma) Giles, Edward (Deniesa) Giles, Michael (Kanyeka) Whitson, Kenneth Giles, Keith Giles, a sister-in-law, Sandra Giles, numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, other family, friends and even certain enemies left to ponder Hurricane Michael, which has disrupted the fabric of his opponents’ lives!

Mike, “Big Mike,” Michael: although your physical presence will be sorely missed, the impact of your life will be greatly celebrated, as we give God all praise for you!
