Roberto Valdez Pena

March 12, 1945 – March 14, 2025

Born in Pettus, Texas, but a lifelong resident of San Antonio, Texas, Roberto Valdez Pena, 80, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Roberto’s life was filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Roberto had a deep passion for life. He was a proud fan of the San Antonio Spurs and the San Francisco 49ers, always cheering them on with enthusiasm. Music brought him joy, especially oldies, classic rock, and hip-hop. He took great pride in maintaining his yard, loved to draw and write poetry, and found peace in traveling—his favorite destinations being San Francisco, California, and the coast. Whether playing dominos or pool, he always enjoyed good competition and great company.

Throughout his life, Roberto worked in various fields, including construction, Fisher’s Lumber Yard, the St. Anthony Hotel, and several restaurants. He believed in hard work, honesty, and, above all, the importance of family. His greatest accomplishment and source of pride was his children, whom he loved dearly.

Roberto is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Donna Pena; his children, Cynthia Pena, Joe Salazar Jr. (Mayra Salazar), Trinidad Edwards (Michael Edwards), Roxanne Fernandez (Juan Fernandez), and Roberto V. Pena Jr.; his grandchildren, Kevin Rubright Jr. (Deseree Sanchez), Brandon Rubright, Ian Rubright, Joe Salazar III, Jacob Salazar, Christian Pena, and Savannah Edwards; and his great-grandchildren, Sofia Rubright, Aria Rubright, Rylee Rubright, and Kaylee Rubright.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Trinidad Valdez and Estanislado Pena, as well as numerous brothers, sisters, and beloved family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations in Roberto’s honor.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

Roberto’s kindness, laughter, and love will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew him.
