Ronald Colman Burton passed away in San Antonio, TX on February 10, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hal R. Burton and Mary Ruth Cotten Burton. He is survived by his wife Eleanor; brother, Larry; daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband Jacques De La Mota; son Jonathan, and his wife Sarah; and his grandchildren Jacob, Hannah, Rachel Katherine and Joshua De La Mota, and Natalie, Amanda and Jennica Burton. Ron was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on April 28, 1940. He grew up in the suburb of Edina, Minn. where he was an acolyte at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. He was an avid skier and hockey player. He attended the University of Minnesota. Ron married Eleanor, his wife of fifty years, in 1962, while working for IBM in Chicago, Ill. Their two children were born while they lived in Mt. Prospect, Ill. The family relocated to Dallas in 1977. He spent his working life in Information Technology as a software engineer analyzing and researching complex problems for the military, telecommunications companies, corporate America, high tech consulting firms and premier accounting, auditing, and tax advisory firms. Ron retired to Del Rio eight years ago and became a citizen activist. He appreciated the opportunity to serve Del Rio in whatever capacity he could and was a regular attendee at city council meetings. He was instrumental in resolving the SE Ranch issue and was involved in the groundwater issues affecting Del Rio and Val Verde County. He served as Chairperson of the Del Rio Civil Service Commission for Police Officers and Fire Fighters. He was a member of the Mayor's Economic Development Committee and a member of the City of Del Rio Policy Committee for Land Development Ordinance Revisions. He also served as an Early Voting Ballot Board election judge. In addition, Ron volunteered as a tax preparer and was a site coordinator in the VITA program in Del Rio. Ron was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather and actively supported his family in all their endeavors. His outlook was always positive. He had the heart of a servant and always took joy in helping others. Ron was much loved and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to MF Challenge.
