William Louis “Rick” Richardson, 87, was a caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, brother and friend who passed away peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 2:00 a.m.

Rick was born March 20, 1936, in Columbia, South Carolina to James and Allie Manigault (Manago) Richardson. He was the last of six children. He graduated from Lakeview High in West Columbia, South Carolina. Saved as a young child, he attended Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church in Columbia where he and his sisters were baptized at the same time. He served as altar boy and sang in the choir.

He gives thanks to God for his creative artistic talents and was influenced by one of his childhood teachers, Mrs. Alberta Simons, and received constant encouragement from his wife, relatives, and friends.

Rick enlisted in the Air Force in June 1954 at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. Rick met and married Tilma Johnson in July, 1956. To this union came, Yvonne and Richie. He was stationed at Randolph, Okinawa, Carswell, Guam, Loring. He retired from the military a T/Sgt in June 1974.

Education was important to Rick. He obtained an AA from San Antonio College; B.S.C.A. and B.S.F.A. from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. Texas and went on to earn a Masters of Science in Education degree from Prairie View A & M University.

He worked for the Port Arthur ISD and taught art and oversaw the yearbook at Thomas Jefferson High School and Lincoln High School. He retired from public education in 1995.

Rick was given an opportunity to pursue his passion for art full time. His work was well known throughout the artistic world. His collections have been on displayed and exhibitions as well as collected by aficionados throughout the United States and abroad.

Rick and Tilma retired and moved back to San Antonio in 2000. In 2001, they joined E. T. Dixon, where he became a member of the Methodist Men and 60+ Bible Study Group.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father, his brother, Albert Richardson, and his sisters, Louise Cleveland, Ruth Williams, Margaret LaMar and Lillie Robinson.

Left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Tilma J. Richardson, his daughter, Yvonne Richardson Fifer (William) of Tulia, TX, his son, Richard P. Richardson of Houston, TX, two brother-in-laws, Fred D. Johnson (Ronnye) of Laguna Woods, CA and LeRoy Robbins of Houston, TX, three granddaughters, Til-Lois Calhoun (Delvin) of Odessa, TX, Jasmine Richardson of Shreveport, LA and Aaliyah Richardson of Houston,TX, an adopted grandson, Equs Darby, Victoria, TX, four great grandchildren Kamyre, Demi and Damir Calhoun and Khloe Domingue, and others.

  1. CandleImageMr. Richardson was a really nice man. I remember the time we had a special function and he started dancing. I loved it. He was so full of life and was such a good dancer. He was smiling and laughing. He made me think of the singers from Motown, like he was about to just start singing away. I will truly miss him. Rest in Peace my friend.
