Willie Floyd Smith

Willie Floyd Smith, lovingly known as BJ, was born on June 15, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas, to Thomacay Smith and Willie Floyd Nious. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 12:12 p.m., surrounded by love and family.

Willie was one of ten children and they grew up on the Westside of San Antonio.  He attended the local public schools and graduated from Fox Technical High School and he shared fond memories of those times with his family and friends. He worked for the City of San Antonio in the Parks and Recreation Department and later at Fort Sam Houston.

Willie was a devoted father, grandfather, and husband. Though he didn’t claim many hobbies, those who knew him best would say that if loving your wife were a hobby, it would have been his greatest passion. His quiet strength, unwavering love, and deep loyalty to his family defined his life and left a lasting legacy.

Willie was proceeded in death by his beloved parents, Willie Floyd Nious and Thomacay Smith; siblings, Freeman Harvey, Jr., Raynor Harvey, Debra Smith, E.L. Sauls, James Sauls and Calvin Nious.

He will be forever cherished by his children: Shirley Sheffield (Ivory), Libeya Ellison, Montrey Smith (Trisha), and Barbara Ann Duncan (Thomas); siblings, Betty Nious, Arthur Nious and Sidney Sauls and he was a proud grandfather to 22 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 39 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride into his life.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Carlos and Doloris for their love, care, and support during Willie’s final days. Their kindness and dedication will never be forgotten.8

Willie Floyd Smith will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege to know and love him.
