Derwin Emil Bios, a beloved son, husband, stepfather, uncle, cousin, brother, brother-in-law, and friend, transitioned from this world to eternal rest on March 23rd, 2025. Born on October 29, 1959, in San Antonio, Texas, Derwin was the cherished son of Reginald Bios Sr. and Lozie Thompson.
Derwin married his soulmate, Nicole Lena Bios, on May 3, 1985, in the picturesque Mons, Belgium. Their journey together took them across various states, with San Antonio being their primary home for 20 out of 40 years living in the United States where they raised their stepson, Mellow. They eventually settled in the scenic hills of Austin, Texas, with their two beloved dogs.
Derwin earned his bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of San Antonio, Texas. He proudly served in the United States Army from August 1977 until his retirement in April 2001 as a Captain, receiving numerous awards and medals for his service. Post-retirement, Derwin pursued further education in sonography and worked at various imaging practices before founding his own business, ” Bios 4D Imaging,” in 2014.
A talented singer and guitarist, Derwin showcased his musical prowess in many arenas and recording studios. His music continues to be available on various streaming platforms. Derwin was known for his impeccable style, always sporting a clean haircut, a shaved face, and the finest threads money could buy. He had a passion for BMW’s, which he drove until the end.
Derwin enjoyed working in the yard, fishing with family and friends, making music, and relaxing on the back patio with his dogs. He was a generous, humorous, and caring individual who could turn any gathering into a party. Derwin’s jokes, laughter, and amazing personality could brighten anyone’s day. He had a unique ability to make friends with anyone and will be remembered for his giving nature.
Derwin was preceded in death by his father Reginald Bios Sr. and his mother, Lozie Thompson.
Derwin is survived by his wife, Nicole Bios; his sisters, Lozie Mae Bios and Anna Blanton; his brother, Reginald Bios Jr.; his brother-in-law, Bruno Volpacchio; his sister-in-law, Natalie Volpacchio; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

I offer my deepest, most heartfelt condolences to the wife and family of my closest friend. I am so sorry for your loss. I shall be thinking of you during this difficult time, sending you my love and support. I know no words can truly ease your pain, but please know I’m here for you. My heart goes out to you during this incredibly difficult time. I’ll always remember Emil and cherish those memories of the fun and hard work we shared.

Emil I didn’t know you much, we spent some time together when I came to your house in Texas in 2016, I kept a beautiful memory, too bad that the disease took you away, we could have all had many beautiful holidays together.

I met Emil while we were in military training — Office’s Basic Course in San Antonio, TX. He always had such positive energy and optimistic outlook on life. I absolutely loved that about him. Emil introduced me to my husband now of over 30+ years. I have been forever grateful to him for such a selfless act. To the family, I pray your strength and endurance during this most unexpected trial. May Jah bless you all.
A rose once grew where all could see, sheltered beside a garden wall.
