Robert Roy Ross Jr.

Robert Roy Ross, Jr. was born May 19, 1931 to Ruth Belle Horton and Robert Roy Ross in the family farmhouse in Pennsylvania, one of ten children. Robert attended a one-room schoolhouse for the first eight years before going to high school.

He joined the Air Force and was sent to Kelly Field in San Antonio, where he attended Travis Park Methodist Church and the Older Youth Group. There he heard the Call to Full-Time Christian Service. He attended Southwestern University, where he met his college sweetheart, Shelley Mitchell, whom he married after their graduation in 1957. He received an M.Div. degree from Perkins School of Theology at SMU. Their two sons, David and Paul, were born in 1960 and 1961.

Robert served as a minister for nearly 40 years in 8 churches in the Southwest Texas Conference of the Methodist Church: Jefferson (in San Antonio), Ingleside, Kenedy, Floresville, Bishop, Johnson City, Refugio and Weslaco.

After retirement, Bob and Shelley moved to the Meadows of Morningside Ministries in San Antonio, where Bob was active in leading Bible Study and other activities.

Robert was a quiet man, reserved in manner and modest in habits. He was God’s Minister, Servant and Child all his 93 years. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Shelley; son David and wife Michele; son Paul and wife Julie; and grandchildren Sofie Ross; Connor Ross and wife Ryal; sister Janet Davis; sister Laura Major and husband Tony; brother Wesley and wife Ellen; and brother Lawrence and wife Patty; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
