Joann Carvajal Baker, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with illness. She was 65 years old. Joann was surrounded by the love of her family, including her devoted husband of 24 years, Eddie Flores, at the time of her passing.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, on January 15, 1960, Joann was the heart and soul of her family. She devoted her life to caring for others, always placing the needs of her loved ones before her own. A mother of three, she raised her children — Angela Baker, Candice Baker, and Larry Baker Jr. — with boundless love, warmth, and strength. Her children remember her as not only their guiding light but as their greatest cheerleader and most trusted confidante.
Joann found joy in the simple things in life — traveling to new places, keeping her home filled with warmth and cleanliness, and creating delicious meals that brought her family together. She was a devoted fan of classic cinema, often found watching Turner Classic Movies, especially her all-time favorite, The Wizard of Oz. Much like Dorothy, Joann had a deep appreciation for home and family — and a heart full of courage, compassion, and love.
Her legacy of kindness, selflessness, and unconditional love lives on through her grandchildren: Jose Martinez Jr., Mary Jane Martinez, Michael Baker, Joanna Alcoser, Inez Alcoser III, and Larry Baker III; and great-grandchildren: Michael Baker Jr., Nathaniel Baker, and Avery Martinez. She was also a beloved sister to five sisters and four brothers, and she held each sibling close to her heart.
Joann is preceded in death by her father Gaspar Rodriguez Carvajal, brother Johnny Carvajal, as well as her beloved mother Marie Carolina Tiente whom she missed dearly and passed away just a couple months prior to her. Though we mourn her loss, we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace and reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
Joann’s life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the beauty of a giving heart. She touched countless lives with her gentle spirit, and her memory will live on in the stories, traditions, and hearts of all who knew her.
