With heavy hearts and unwavering faith in God’s promises, we announce the passing of Joe Rodriguez Vitela, Jr., who entered into eternal rest on July 5, 2026, in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 57. Joe was born on July 23, 1968, in San Antonio, where he spent his life surrounded by the family and friends he cherished so deeply.
Joe was a loving father, devoted grandfather, caring brother, and loyal friend whose greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved. He had an infectious sense of humor and was known for being a jokester who could brighten any room with his laughter, quick wit, and warm personality. His kindness and genuine heart made him beloved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In the final chapter of his life, Joe embraced his faith and became a born-again Christian. His renewed relationship with the Lord brought him peace, hope, and comfort, and his family finds solace in knowing that he has now been welcomed into the loving arms of his Savior.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Joe R. Vitela, Sr. and Reyna Rodriguez Vitela; his cherished sister, Rita Rodriguez; his Tia Lupe and his grandmother Nina, all of whom he loved dearly. While his family grieves his absence, they take comfort in the beautiful thought that Joe has been joyfully reunited in Heaven with those who went before him. Their reunion is one of everlasting peace, free from pain and sorrow, in the presence of God’s eternal love.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and treasured memories that will forever live on in the hearts of his family. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved daughter, Pamela Vitela; his son, Joe Vincent Vitela; brother Fernando Vitela, and his precious grandchildren, Xandria, Zariah, and Ameyna, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. He also leaves behind many extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by his compassion, humor, and unwavering love.
Though Joe’s earthly journey has come to an end, his spirit, laughter, and the love he shared will continue to inspire those who knew him. His family rejoices in the assurance that because of his faith in Christ, this farewell is not forever, but only until they meet again.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23

I am an old friend from Poe and I considered Joe a brother. He and Rita made some lasting memories with us Poe ladies and they will forever be missed.
Joe was a character, always had us laughing. He and Rita have left a big hole in our hearts. We will treasure the memories forever.
I will be out of town but my prayers and love will be sent your way.

Hello, my name is Darrell Eugene Cook. I knew Joe Vitela in the second grade in Mrs. Beisenbach’s class at Smith Elementary School in year 1976-1977. First I knew his sister Rita Vitela in Kindergarten and I knew his cousin Wendy Rodriguez later at Smith Elementary School when I was in the fourth and fifth grade. Alot of old memories are gone. Joe you were like a big brother to me always. I love you so much. My prayers and condolences to Wendy Rodriguez and Joe’s wonderful family. I remembered he was always clowning around. It will never the same without him around. May God bless Joe Vitela’s family.
