Anthony Hoskin Sr.

Anthony Hoskin Sr., also known as “Deanie,” was born to Johnny and Florence Hoskin on November 30, 1956. He grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where he attended Brackenridge High School and later Sam Houston High School. He continued his education at Texas A&M University at Galveston, where he received certification to steer large sea vessels.

Anthony was a Merchant Marine and became a helmsman. One of his greatest passions was piloting ships, and he often expressed his love for driving ships while serving as a Merchant Marine.

Anthony gave his life to Christ at a very young age and was a member of Greater Evangelist Temple Church of God in Christ (COGIC). He was an active member and became a part of the Men’s Choir, where he enjoyed singing and giving praise to God. He later joined Tried Stone Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Brooks. He continued singing in the choir and often led songs with his rich baritone voice. After his marriage to Evelyn, he united with Mt. Zion First Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Otis I. Mitchell.

From his first union, he and Carolyn L. Ward Hoskin were blessed with three beautiful children. He raised his family in San Antonio and later relocated to Houston, Texas.

Anthony found great peace in fishing. Whether he was casting a line at sunrise or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of God’s creation, those moments brought him peace and reminded him of the many blessings that surrounded him. Fishing wasn’t just a hobby—it was a place where he felt close to God and found comfort in the stillness of nature.

Deanie was very sociable and loved attending trail rides and cowboy dances. He was a long-time member of The Turning Point Trail Riders, where he met his wife, Evelyn, and served as Sergeant-at-Arms of the club. Anthony was also an Auxiliary member of The American Legion Post 0828 and was an excellent pool shark as he joined the Billard club at the Legion. He also enjoyed traveling, especially cruising and spending time near the water in Galveston and Jamaican Beach.

Anthony treasured supporting his wife, Evelyn, and the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated, Gamma Tau Chapter. As the spouse of Soror Evelyn, he became an Anthropo (the men in the lives of the sorority sisters) and was proud to serve as the Anthropos’ President since 2022, leading and supporting the men affiliated with the sorority. Anthony continued his support by becoming a Public Member of the Association of Texas Professional Educators.

All who truly knew him, knew he was extremely friendly and loved to dance and worship God through song.

Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Hoskin Sr. and Florence Hoskin; his brothers, Michael Hoskin, Charles Hoskin, Willie Hoskin, and Larry Hoskin; and his sister, Sandra Hoskin.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his devoted wife, Evelyn Miles-Hoskin; his siblings, Leonard Hoskin, Johnny Hoskin Jr., Shirley Hoskin, Dorothy Hoskin, and Patricia Hoskin; his three children, Anthony Hoskin Jr. (Twandolyn), Andreanette Hoskin, and Andrew Hoskin (Sean); seven grandchildren, Chamarea, Brooke, Bryce, Cambren (Kalvin), Camry, Isaiah (Brianna), and Raynah; one cherished great-granddaughter, Kaia Bliss Palmer; two beloved goddaughters, Chaz Goodloe and Tomiqua Morris (Paul); god-grandchildren, Chazmyn, Paul Morris Jr., and Danyel (Adan); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and loving friends.
